Philae Temple, High Dam & Unfinished Obelisk

Your tour of the High Dam and Philae Temple (Unfinished Obelisk tour) begins at a time of your choosing (8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am, or later) from your Aswan hotel or on your Nile cruise. 

First, visit the astonishing Aswan High Dam which is an unparalleled engineering feat of modern Egypt. Built in the 1960s and needing immense construction work and an immense quantity of materials, the dam created the vast Lake Nasser, controlling the flow of the Nile during the yearly floods. 

Then take a trip to the ancient granite quarries to marvel at the awe-inspiring Unfinished Obelisk. This vast stone was planned to be the biggest obelisk in ancient Egypt but work stopped before its completion. Here you can see how the Ancient Egyptians could hew enormous stones from the granite base. Weather permitting, we shall take a relaxing felucca ride to tour around the islands of Aswan and experience a romantic view of the landscape from traditional sailing. 

From here take a motorboat ride over to Agilika Island and tour the breathtaking Philae Temple. This stunning temple, the most beautiful in the Egyptian world, is dedicated to the goddess Isis and is a mixture of Egyptian, Greek & Roman architectural styles. The temple was dismantled and relocated piece by piece to Agilika Island due to the building of the High Dam. 

After you've cruised back around the islands, take a transfer back to your Aswan hotel or on board your Nile cruise.
