Itinerary

You are picked up at your hotel at 08:00 am with your private Egyptologist guide to visit Wadi El Natrun, the most famous of early Christian monasteries. This ancient monastery complex, lying in the Egyptian desert, has been considered one of the most important centers of early Christian monasticism in the world, the home to various saints, prophets and monks who dedicated their lives to God in the middle of the desert.
First visit will be to Deir al-Baramus, the oldest still existing monastery in Wadi El Natrun. The monastery is famous for its quiet environment, old churches, and monastic heritage. Next visit will be to Deir Anba Bishoi, considered one of the most holiest monasteries in Egypt, where the saint’s body still exists and is visited by many devoted tourists.
After that we will visit the most important and largest monastery in Wadi El Natrun, Deir Abu Maqar. This monastery has the largest monks community, amazing historical churches, great treasures and has large areas of agricultural land cultivated by the resident monks. Finally we will visit the last of the remaining monasteries, the smallest in the area; Deir El Suryani. The monastery is famous for its outstanding architecture and a lot of unique icons and old manuscripts are available at the monastery.
During the trip your guide will offer interesting details about Christian Monasticism and the life of the Desert Fathers and their everlasting religious traditions that are still existing in the Wadi El Natrun up till now. After visiting those monasteries you will be transferred back to your hotel.
